Since we’re taking the next two weeks off from producing the podcast I’d like to start the news off with a little wrap-up of our weekend because it was so much fun.
Friday night we had our first trivia night at Neptune Coffee and the place was packed. The Joss Whedon trivia scared off a couple of innocent bystanders but there were still plenty of teams competing. We’re hosting another trivia night on Friday December 18 and this time the topic is going to be The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings!
Sunday night we had our second Seattle Geekly game night at Green Lake Games and the new time (1 to 5 pm) worked out well enough that we’ll be sticking with that for the next game night which is going to be Sunday December 20.
During the game night we picked up a copy of a new cardgame and had a chance to try it out. The game is Poo, published by Catalyst Game Labs. It’s about what you would expect from the name and the cover art; each player takes on the role of a monkey in the primate house at the zoo right at the beginning of a poo-flinging battle. It is a very fast paced game and quite simple to learn. We played two games in about an hour and that included the time taken to read the rules. The cards provide you with an arsenal of different sized poo to fling from “pellet poo” to “the big one” that inflict varying amounts of “poo points” on your opponents. The first monkey to collect fifteen poo points is eliminated and the goal is to be the last monkey standing. Play is complicated by special poo cards, like “devil poo” and “the screaming mi-mis”, cleaning cards (“dip in the pool”, “you found a towel” etc.) and defenses (“block”, “dodge” etc.) and by the mechanic of The Golden Banana which returns the first player to be eliminated to the game. The art is funny and cartoony and includes no actual poo. Catalyst states on their website that “this game is designed to be cute and fun, something you can play with your mother” and that is what they have delivered. Poo can be played by three to eight players and retails for around $15.

I just finished writing the script a few months back, and Blur is working on a lot of test stuff. Fincher is working on a film right now, so we’re waiting for him to get some space so we can start showing some of this stuff off. I’m pretty happy with everything so far. We’ve just got to work to get to the next point. This is a slow, long process. David’s going to be heavily involved. I’ve worked with him and Blur quite a bit to get the screenplay together, and it’s been a great experience so far.
