Seattle Geekly is a bi-weekly podcast that aspires to be about all of geek culture, a daunting task so most of the time it is about things that creators and producers Shannon Flowers and Matt Hammond are interested in and want to talk about. It is a local podcast with a global appeal. Seattle Geekly covers topics ranging from books to movies, TV to tabletop gaming, video games, comics and everything in between.

Shannon and Matt are Seattle natives who grew up nerdy and have finally found a way to try and give something back to the community that has meant so much to them over the years. If Seattle Geekly can hook one person up to one book, movie, TV show, game or event that they would not have otherwise found it will be a success!

Hype

The podcast has met with an incredible response since its inception. It has consistently been in the top 25 “featured podcasts” in its category on the iTunes store and individual episodes have peaked as high as number 9 in the top 100 downloaded podcasts in the Games & Hobbies: Other Games category. One listener described Shannon and Matt’s style this way,

The Seattle Geekly website has a growing community of followers and has become a well known destination for convention and local event news. Seattle Geekly communities also exist on most social media sites and they were listed as one of 10 most influential Twitterers in Seattle by the WeFollow twitter directory and as one of the Best Seattle Twitter Feeds by GuideSpot. Seattle Geekly was also highlighted as a “Nerd Resource” in Seattle Magazine’s February 2011 Geek Power issue.

Shannon and Matt have been invited to speak as panelists on various topics at many events including Dragonflight, one of Washington’s largest tabletop gaming conventions, Norwescon, the northwest’s premier science-fiction and fantasy fan convention, Crypticon, the largest horror convention in Washington, and at PAX, one of the country’s largest video gaming conventions. They have also moderated celebrity interview panels at Emerald City ComiCon.

Matt has published articles on geek culture in Seattle both in print in Sound Magazine (Nerd Mentality, July 2009 and Penny-Wise, September 2009) and City Arts (Full Steam Ahead, November 2010) and online at MonkeyGoggles.com (The Geekiest Spots in Seattle) and Live For Films (The Revenant, 2009 Movie Review)
