About Seattle Geekly
Seattle Geekly is a weekly podcast that aspires to be about all of geek culture in the Northwest. A daunting task, so mostly it is about things that creators and producers Shannon Flowers and Matt Hammond are interested in and want to talk about.
Shannon and Matt are Seattle natives and consider themselves to be “renaissance geeks” with interests in science fiction, fantasy and horror as well as video games, board games and tabletop role playing. They started the Seattle Geekly podcast in February of 2009 as a way to explore and promote the community that has meant so much to them over the years.
The podcast has met with an incredible response since its inception. It has consistently been in the top 25 “featured podcasts” in its category on the iTunes store and individual episodes have peaked as high as number 9 in the top 100 downloaded podcasts in the Games & Hobbies: Other Games category. One listener described Shannon and Matt’s style this way,
They’re not super-geeks who talk over your head with obscure references and techno-babble, they’re not business-minded non-geeks trying to make a quick buck off of the sudden popularity of Nerd Culture… they’re just average people who really like geeky stuff and have taken it upon themselves to promote the lifestyle they love in the best way possible – with a PODCAST!

The Seattle Geekly website has a growing community of followers with approximately 5000 unique visitors per month and is quickly becoming a well known destination for convention and local event news. Seattle Geekly communities also exist on most social media sites and they were listed as one of 10 most influential Twitterers in Seattle by the WeFollow twitter directory and as one of the Best Seattle Twitter Feeds by GuideSpot
Shannon and Matt were invited to speak as panelists on podcasting and geek culture at Dragonflight 2009, one of Washington’s largest tabletop gaming conventions, Norwescon 33, the northwest’s premier science-fiction and fantasy fan convention and Crypticon 2010, the largest horror convention in Washington. Matt has published articles on geek culture in Seattle both in print in Sound Magazine (Nerd Mentality, July 2009 and Penny-Wise, September 2009) and online at MonkeyGoggles.com (The Geekiest Spots in Seattle) and Live For Films (The Revenant, 2009 Movie Review)
