Captain Slinky on Smaller, shorter and cut?

First off, thanks for the shout-out on the podcast... I am, as always, week behind in listening, but have forwarded the link t The Girls of Geek Camp

So! The new format for the podcast!

Thing is, I really enjoy the shorter format but I don't want to miss any of the old features! How Geek Was Your Week, Dared Movies, Events Calendar, Interviews, etc...

SUGGESTIONS: Weekly podcast continues to have How Geek Was Your Week, Interviews and then a single "Geek Event We Are Most Looking Forward To This Week" along with a suggestion to check the events calendar on the website. Then, once a month we get THE BIG PODCAST with a full Events Calendar and Dared Movie (along with the usual interviews and Geek Week). And then at NorWesCon we can have a "Seattle Geekly Presents: Suffer Along With Shannon" movie event! I envision it as a charity event where, for a few months ahead of time, people can donate a certain dollar amount to a charity in exchange for a ticket and the chance to choose the Dared Movie!

Gah... I'm just too full of ideas today!

Dlaw on Study: Video Games Linked To Reckless Driving

This article was posted by @SeattleGeekly

I thought I would share my response I sent to the author rkchapman@wcco.com

Please feel free to also email the author with your thoughts.

http://wcco.com/entertainment/.....51621.html

"Study: Video Games Linked To Reckless Driving"
"The findings do not directly link playing video games to reckless driving."

Very impressive contradiction there.

"The research comes on the heels of a record number of teenagers losing their lives on Minnesota roadways. Nineteen teenagers have died in car accidents in the past six months."

How many of these teenagers played video games? Please don't assume that just because they're teenagers, they all do. Also it might be helpful if you broke it down a little further. If a drunk driver killed a teenager, which would be in your statistic, how is that related to video games? I know teenagers like to wear tennis shoes. Maybe it is the shoe's fault that these kids are dying in traffic incidents.

You also report on the mental harm "Grand Theft Auto" may have on a 16 year old who just received their license. Now, if only there was a way we could keep the game out of the hands of minors. Perhaps we could get the ESRB to come up with some sort of rating system that we could print on these games that would tell parents that the game is not intended for their child. Oh wait, I forgot there is a big 'M for Mature' rating on that game. So maybe you should do a story on the parents that allow a 16 year old to play a video game that is rated 'M'

Mr. Chapman, I don't mean to be facetious, but you are being very biased and broad in your article. I pride myself in being a very safe driver and an avid video gamer. For you to attack this topic without any real evidence and just a few quotes from random people is very unprofessional for a journalist.

I look forward to reading your next article to see if you are able to comprehend my response.

Sincerly,
-Dan L.

My name is Jer and I am a nerd on a mission.

For three cons a year (ECCC, Sakuracon and PAX), Seattle geeks emerge for a grand fandom takeover of downtown. Then we all go into hiding for months, waiting silently in our nerd dens for the next sign its safe to emerge.

Where does everyone go, seriously? Did you see how packed the cons the past year? There's a LOT of us!

Anywho, I'm here because my friends over at Busy Gamer News bring up Seattle-Geekly literally every time we talk. I'm serious, not a conversation goes by without mention. So there's got to be something to this place, no?

So in conclusion: Hi, I'm Jer.

I am Tanya. I live in the Seattle area (thankfully traded up from a red state). Life long geek girl who found my geek mate and spawned some geeklings. The hubby works for MS Game Studios so we live and breathe this stuff. We are a family that plays together ... you know what follows. We are all gamers, tabletop, console, mmo, you name it. Heavy in to media, tv, movies. Now that the littlest kidling is older I have gotten back in to reading and comics. I also have some time to listen to podcasts! Happy to have discovered this. I have a win to share with the hubby. We were at this past ECCC but I was not aware of you guys then. Look forward to searching you out at PAX Prime.

I'm an engineer, video game player, comic book reader, movie nerd and mountain biker. I also host my own podcast called A Little Dead Podcast (your place for full frontal nerdity) where I review comic books, movies, video games and books.

I'm not sure how I came across the podcast, but am certainly glad I did. I've been listening for about 3 months and love it.

But I'd really love to find like-minded geeks out in my distant area of Covington/Maple Valley - or basically anywhere in Southeastern King County.

If we can find enough people, I might even be willing to start a kind of a Seattle Geekly remote outpost (you know - out at the edge of the Neutral Zone) ...

Never, and I mean NEVER! Never have I listened to a podcast so soon after it hit Teh Webbernets! It was like Ooh, iTunes says I have a new episode of Seattle Geekly - Dee-Doo! You have 1 new message from Seattle Geekly Fans, "Hey everybody the new episode is up", well I guess I better listen NOW! That was pretty darned cool

I had what you guys have, and I can't reccomend Buckley's Cough Syrup strongly enough. My large Barbarian friend from the frozen Northlands (Saskatchewan) told me about it, their only advertising in Canada was something like "Tastes Terrible". But LORDY des it work! You take it and say "BLEEEAGH THAT WAS - ooh, hang on, I can talk again and my nose stopped running!" THAT FAST!!!!

Question: When you guys refer to "Pins" for the SARLACC group and your own Seattle Geekly pins... we talkin' old-skool circular pins you could make with a Badge-o-matic? Or are we talking TGIFriday's "Flair"-style lapel pins? I guess i *could* just wait till tomorrow, but I'm trying to budget tday for the con.

I remember it well because I talked about it with my good friend Lord Buckley at The Cafe Frankenstien! Then my Boss, Rod Serling came in with an onion tied to his belt because that was the STYLE of the day..."

Waiting to exhale... please tell me that this was it!

It sounds like the rate that you record on Power Gramo and the one you chose on Audacity isn't the same one.

On the right hand side of the Audio track in Audacity, you see all the "Stereo" "44100Hz" type things. Audacity tapes in "44100Hz" you need to slow it down to "48000Hz".

Click the "Audio Track" drop down menu. At the LAST line is "Set Rate" go down to there and change it to "48000Hz". This WHOLE track will be that rate, so anything else you want to have around it will have to be in a separate track.

You'll have to do this for every Power Gramo track in the future/

Hope that helped!
