There is a good crop of geeky movies coming up in the next few months and this week we’re giving you the rundown. We’ve got the previews, our thoughts on the films and we’ll tell you whether you should see it in the theater, watch it at home or skip it all together.

We also talk to Danielle from Seattle’s Pacific Science Center about the exhibit Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination and we review the locally-produced documentary Charles Beaumont: The Short Life of Twilight Zone’s Magic Man.

All that plus some geek news and Shannon watches another Dared Movie.

Finishing off our ECCC coverage this week, we have more interviews recorded on Saturday and Sunday at the con. In this episode we talk with writer Eric Trautmann, webcomic creators Neal Bailey, Alina Pete, and Rebecca Hicks, artist Echo Chernik, we catch up with Creator’s Edge editor-in-chief Chuck Messinger and Ed Ward the founder and operator of the Paper Windows comic subscription service. We were also lucky enough to sit down with William F. Nolan, author of Logans Run, among many other things, who was celebrating his 83rd birthday at Emerald City!

Beyond our Emerald City coverage, we also talk with with bestselling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson about their new book Hellhole and get the rundown on the upcomming Gamestorm 13 with Outreach Coordinator Jason.

It’s a long show this week but we’re cramming in enough goodness to keep you going as we return to our bi-weekly format.

We’re back after our long break and we’re starting off the new year with our eyes firmly planted on the rear-view mirror. 2010 was a good year to be a geek and we’ll be looking back at some of the highlights. The geek level in Seattle will go to eleven later this month with the opening of two exhibits, Battlestar Galactica: The Exhibition at the EMP|SFM and Harry Potter: The Exhibition at the Pacific Science Center. This week we’ll be talking about what you’ll see at these two shows, including an interview with EMP|SFM curator Brooks Peck!

Battlestar Galactica: The Exhibition at the EMP|SFM
- keep an eye on the EMP|SFM calendar for special events over the course of the exhibition’s run

Harry Potter: The Exhibition at the Pacfic Science Center
- Check the Pacific Science Center’s calendar for the Harry Potter Film Festival. They will be showing all the Harry Potter movies at the IMAX theater, capping off with the premier of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 The IMAX Experience which opens November 19!

October Month of Good Horror

This week’s good horror movies were La habitación del niño (The Baby’s Room) (2006) suggested by Kelsie and The Haunting (1963) suggested by Steven.

we totally failed at finding a trailer for The Baby’s Room online but both it and The Haunting are available through Netflix.

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year! No wait, that comes later. So it may not be the most wonderful time, but October and Halloween hold a special place in our geeky hearts. Possibly because this is the one time of year no one looks at you funny if you go out dressed up as your favorite comic book character.

This week we’re hanging out on the scarier side of the season with the great ghouls from the Stocker Farms Field of Screams. We also have a couple resources for those outside of the Seattle area, and even outside the U.S., to find a nearby haunt.

GOOD Horror Movies for October 2010

Just like last year, I’m hoping to get a slew of GOOD horror movies to review each week in October. The suggestors of the movies I watch will be put in a random drawing to win a Seattle Geekly prize package! (Not sure what’ll be in it yet, but it should be good!)

Same deal with the Dared Movies – it needs to be something I’ve not seen (which is the hardest part) and actually “good” to the suggestor.
